Editing Services

Every project is different. I offer a range of editing services to help make your prose manuscript accomplish its purpose.

Quick-skim edit

I’ll read your manuscript fast.  Really fast.  I might not read every single word.  I’ll give you the best advice I can based on that quick skim.  I can tell you what might jump out (for good or ill) when a publisher or agent takes a look at your work.  Or if you know the manuscript needs work, but you aren’t sure what, I can give you suggestions for how to approach your revisions.  I can usually do a quick-skim edit for $200 or less.

Developmental edit

I will read your manuscript carefully and help you identify its strengths.  I will suggest ways that you can approach revision so that the entire manuscript will match the quality of your best efforts.  The cost of a developmental edit depends on the length of your manuscript and the types of revision it needs.  After I see a sample, I can give you an estimate.

Copy edit

I will read your almost-final manuscript carefully, line-by-line, to eliminate errors or awkwardness in grammar and wording and to ensure overall consistency.  The cost will depend on the length, condition, and complexity of your manuscript, usually somewhere between $1.50 and $3.00 per page.

Proofread

I will read a copy-edited manuscript carefully to ferret out typos and formatting errors.  The cost will depend on the length, condition, and complexity of your manuscript, usually somewhere between $1.25 and $2.50 per page.

How I work

For all types of edits, I use the Track Changes  and Comments features of Microsoft Word.

Tell me about your project

In the form below, tell me about your manuscript and what you would like help with, and I will respond by email with some ideas and estimated costs.

Writing classes and workshops

I had been looking forward to the 2020 summer season of in-person  Write-For-You workshops at the Latah Recovery Community Center.  Alas.

Congratulations to last summer’s students who earned certificates in Fiction Writing, Project Management and Grant Writing.

Applause and thanks to those who dropped by the classes just for fun.

Let’s Talk About It

A program that supports reading and discussion in libraries throughout the state of Idaho. Free and open to all. Somehow? Again? At a later date?

We are all looking forward to the time when it will be possible to resume these lively book discussions.

I’ve served as a scholar for this program for I-don’t-know-how-many years. I have found every book, every library, every group of people to be interesting and stimulating. Every discussion brings new ideas and surprises.

I’m confident that this program will evolve so that it can continue to bring Idahoans together through books. We just don’t know how or when that will happen.  Yet.
